Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a typical New Patient appointment?

We respect your time and value a personalized experience! Your appointment will vary depending on your needs, but please plan on 1 to 1.5 hours for your first visit.

How often should I visit the dentist?

To maintain healthy teeth and gums, seeing a dentist regularly for routine cleaning and checkups is important. We suggest visiting us at Hulsey Dentistry at least once every six months or twice a year. When problems are detected early the necessary treatments are much less invasive. Remember – an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Are Dental xrays necessary?

Dental radiographs (X-rays) are essential, preventive, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam. Dentists and dental hygienists use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan. Without X-rays, problem areas may go undetected.

Is fluoride varnish helpful?

According to the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA), fluoride has been researched and proven to be safe and effective when administered and used as instructed. Our hygienists can provide a fluoride varnish treatment right after a dental cleaning as a fast and easy way to provide protection. Not only does fluoride prevent decay, it can also reduce root hypersensitivity such as cold sensitivity and sensitivity during dental cleanings, which can be common with gum recession.

Does Dr. Hulsey check for oral cancer?

Absolutely. As your dental provider, we are your first line of defense in detecting and treating oral cancer. Dr. Hulsey performs an oral cancer exam at every dental cleaning. Oral cancer can develop in several areas of the mouth and often appears as a sore that will not go away. The good news is, when found early, oral cancers have an 80 to 90% cure rate. If you have any questions about oral cancer, we encourage you to contact our office today.

Can cosmetic dentistry fix crooked teeth?

Cosmetic dentistry can fix spaces in between your front teeth, give the appearance of straighter teeth, or even make dental veneers, dental implants or bridges to give you the perfect smile. Chipped teeth can be smoothed and evened, and stains erased with cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Hulsey specializes in giving patients the smile of their dreams with a variety of different cosmetic treatments.
